Course Title: Marriage & Divorce Tax Planning and Ethics Tax Practice Standards
Description: Registration & breakfast 7:30, CPE 8:00-12:00 p.m. Staff of member rate $60. Meeting room is on second floor. Members only shredding event will take place immediately following this meeting in the Deloitte building parking lot. Marriage & Divorce Tax Planning: This course will discuss the income, estate, and gift tax consequences of marriage and divorce, including the effects of pre-nuptial agreements on preexisting tax debt and the taxation of income from separate property assets. It will address tax traps that may be encountered in property settlements, the sale of the principal residence, and the payment of child support and alimony. We will discuss problems encountered in dividing closely held businesses, IRA and Qualified Plans, stock options, and deferred compensation in divorce. It will cover the relief available from filing joint income tax returns. Ethics: This course is a comprehensive discussion on standards that professionals must adhere to as tax practitioners. We will cover the major governing rules, including Treasury Circular 230, the AICPA Statements on Standards for Tax Services (SSTS), the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), and common law to ensure ethical compliance in your tax practice. Examples will be included illustrating dilemmas faced by tax practitioners.
